 Children in Need

Today we had a fantastic morning joining Joe Wicks for the last 20 minutes of his 24 hours of PE. We had so much fun! The children also go to wear their own clothes to school today. Well done for donating to Children in Need. Take a look at the pictures below. smiley

Remembrance Day

Today we attended virtual Mass with Father Gary. Following this we watched a short reflection video for Remembrance Day. We had a 2 minute silence to remember all those who have fought so bravely or died to keep us safe.

Reception did so well and really were a credit to the school. They were respectful when they took time to reflect during the 2 minute silence.

In Reception we have been learning about Remembrance Day and the significance of a poppy. We made a class poppy wreath and we individually made poppy pictures using paint and apples to print. We think that the pictures look fantastic and are really effective.

Mixing colours and water - Mark Rothko

Using warm and cool colours to show seasons

Today the children made their own Mark Rothko paintings by mixing colours by adding water and other colours. They also explored how artists used different colours to show different seasons. They might use cooler colours for a Winter scene or warmer colours for a Summer scene. We looked at two famous paintings to discuss this - Hockney’s ‘A bigger splash’ to show summer warmth and Bruegel’s ‘Hunters in the snow’ to show winter.

We then created two class collages - a warm collage and a cool collage.

Knowing about Jesus in the temple

Today we learned about Jesus when He was a young boy. We read the story of ‘The finding in the temple’. We will know that Jesus went to the temple, He got left behind, and Mary and Joseph found Him in the temple talking about the Bible.

Jesus stayed in the temple, because He felt safe...He knew He was in God's house...He loved talking about God...He was wise and understood the Bible.

Understanding the world

Learning all about the North and South Poles...

Today we have been talking about the North and South Poles. We have looked at some pictures and discussed the environment and weather. We have then looked at a globe to see where we live, and compared it to where the North and South Poles are. We also talked about Arctic explorers and what they do.

We worked in house teams to be Arctic explorers. We each collected items to put in the water and we talked about what we think is going to happen to the water when we put it in the freezer.

We will find out next week…

 Bonfire Night

The children enjoyed learning about Bonfire Night and creating

firework pictures. We used splodges of paint and forks to spread

the paint. Messy...but LOTS of fun!

Understanding the world

Learning all about the weather...

Today we worked in house teams to deliver our very own weather reports. We learned about different types of weather and watched a real weather report to get some ideas. We used a map of the United Kingdom to talk about the weather in Birmingham. We had a great time!

Knowing about celebrations in church - weddings

Today we were learning about celebrations in church. We talked about what happens in church in Mass, but also what celebrations take place in church. We particularly focused on the celebration of marriage - where people show love and care for each other by making promises to each other before God, family and friends. We watched a short video of a wedding service in church and then we discussed what happens, and why people get married. Afterwards in small groups we acted out a wedding ceremony.
