BoomReader Online Reading Journals
At Our Lady & St Rose of Lima, we use an online reading diary called BoomReader. In a few weeks the Nursery children will take home a weekly home reader book, which is a story we ask you to read to them at home. This is to ensure that our children are enjoying listening to books and reading for pleasure and developing their vocabulary with the new stories they learn.
The children will be exposed to a variety of story books, suited for Nursery age children which will include a wide range of cultures, diversity and backgrounds. These books will then be changed weekly for your child and they will receive a new book every Wednesday.
We will also be sending home your child's personal login for Boom Reader, along with their weekly reading book and a parent guide to help you get set up at home. The online journals have replaced the old paper copies, and makes it so easy for you to read and comment on your child reading at home.
The website can be accessed via the computer website, or as an app or URL on your smartphone. We expect children to read for 10 minutes a day and log this online. As time goes on, using these online reading journals will also secure a visible online reading journey from Nursery to Year 6 for your child, which you will be able to see and look back on.
