Catholic Virtue Award

Year 1 Catholic Virtues Award

Each half term, we focus on two different Catholic Virtues.  As a class, we explore and discover what the virtues mean and how we can show we are fulfilling them on a daily basis. Every half term, we will choose  a person who has express the Catholic Virtues and we will award them with the 'Catholic Virtues' award.

Autumn 2

Valentina

For our virtues we have chosen Valentina for this half term. Valentina is learned and wise in everything she does- she always gives her learning 110% and is engaged is anything she does. She loves to learn, both in the classroom and at home, and is always pushing herself by asking challenging questions to find out more about a topic. She is always engaged in her learning but also uses her wisdom to strive to do more- she is passionate about important issues of injustice in our community such as climate change and tackling racism. We are so proud of her amazing attitude and is such an inspiration to us all. Well done Valentina!

Autumn 1

Shalom

Shalom has been chosen for our virtues prize for Autumn 1. She is a true demonstration of the virtues eloquent and truthful. Shalom loves to speak clearly and loudly in class and has a real vibrancy, enthusiasm and energy in the way she talks. She loves to use her words for good and to praise other children when they have done something fantastic in the class. She also loves to talk about God and enjoys listening to and retelling stories from the Bible in her own words. Shalom is always extremely truthful- she will always say if she has done anything wrong and will always own up to her mistakes, which are very rare! She is a shining example of our class virtues and we are so proud of her. Well done Shalom!

Spring 1

Being curious and active in our Class Virtues

This half term we are looking at the virtues 'curious' and 'active'. 'We are curious when we are engaged in our learning and want to learn more about the different topics we are taught in school. We can be ciour by pushing and probing ourselves to ask challenging questions and to strive to find out more. We can also be curious about the world we live in and wonder about how God made something so beautiful and so perfect, for us to enjoy and care for.

We are active when we use this curiosity and knowledge to make a difference to the world. We choose to do something about what we have learnt, whether that be working towards the common good, fighting for injustice or working to save our planet. We are active by following the word of God and Jesus example, in evert everything we do, to make ourselves better people.

Autumn 2

Being learned and wise in our Class Virtues

This half term we are looking at the virtues 'learned' and 'wise. We are learned when we are educated about God and are enriched by God's creation and the people who are a part of it. To be learned is to learn the facts about God and Jesus life and to know what happened through the stories of the Bible and why they are important.

We are wise when we used the facts and skills we know and have to change our world for the better. We can ask the lord to gift us with the power of wisdom through the Holy Spirit to see with his eyes, feel with Good's heart and to speak with his words. We are wise when we consider how our actions affect others and how we change ourselves to make the world better and more loving for all.

Autumn 1

Being eloquent and truthful in our Class Virtues

This half term we are looking at the virtues 'eloquent' and 'truthful'. We are eloquent when we use our voices and our words to speak loving words about God and to spread his word. We can tell people about the love of Jesus and how he can be a force for good and change in our lives.

We are discerning when we make good choices with God and Jesus at the centre of our thoughts. We can decide to do the right thing in the interest of the needs of others because we know the positive impact that will have on their lives. We can be discerning when we have listened to God's will and then put it into practise- we understand what he asks us to do and begin to achieve it.

Please ask the children about the virtues they have been learning in class this half term and ask them, how they will fulfil and carry out these virtues in their daily life. We would love to hear what they tell you!
