They also learnt about different ways to deal with online problems such as reporting, blocking, telling someone and sending a message or screenshotting or taking a photo of any nasty messages. They also learnt about the importance of being aware on popups or adverts asking you to click on a link or for personal information and to protect ourselves from potential viruses for our computer. The children then went into a game adventure and had to use their new knowledge to pass different levels. Year One has great fun discussion what they would do and working together as a team to pass the levels and defeat the cyber bullies. They were so brilliant at being e safety experts and I am so pleased with al that they know about to use the internet and technology safely and responsibly Please see photos of the children's workshop below and if you want any more information on E Safety please click on the link below to access games, videos and useful information from our school website.

Children have also been coming up in class each day to say a line of the prayer and to discuss what the words mean. We have also been talking about who we share food and dinner with and nd what conversations we have with people when we eat. The children have also been taking part in projects at home and have bought in pictures of them eating with their families and of healthy foods they like to eat. We have then created a class collage which we have shared on our altar. Please see pictures of the children's fantastic homework below and of them practising their prayer actions in class. They then acted out the story, with different children acting as Jesus, the disciples and the children, and the children had lots of fun! They now understand how Jesus loves children and he cared for all of them, no matter how small they are. We know as children we all have a place in the kingdom of heaven, and that we are close to God. Well done Year One for your fantastic acting skills and make sure you ask your child about the story of Jesus and the children at home- I am sure they would love to tell you! Prayer
This week we are focusing on learning the daily prayers needed for Year One. We are focusing on learning the Our Father, the Hail Mary, the Glory Be and our morning and end of the day prayers. I would like you to practise these daily as much as possible. I have given you a new prayer to focus on and learn each day. Make sure you also reflect on what the words of these prayers mean and how they can be used in our daily lives. God wants us to take time to speak to him and listen to his words and praying using the words he taught us is a great way of doing this and showing our devotion to him. These are such beautiful prayers and it would be wonderful if your child practise saying these at home and trying to remember and learn them by heart. We have looked at most of them in class so they should be familiar to the children. Enjoy learning these wonderful prayers.

Education
I thought our topic this week in Collective Worship was something extremely current. With the virus, we are all experiencing education in a different way, whether that be doing online or remote learning at home, having to work with out parents or working in small key bubbles during school. I know and appreciate a lot of us ( including myself) are finding this hard to be separated from school learning and each other and we are missing all our classmates and teachers. This pandemic won't last forever but I thought it would be a good idea to reflect on this over the next week, thinking about education from the Bible and how our education in the UK is different to other places in the world. . Look at a different slide each day and think about what it is trying to tell you about being educated and learned. Think about what education means and how we are lucky to have this where we live, even at times like this where things may be difficult or different to normal.

Week 4 25.1.2021-29.1.2021
Happiness
Currently, we are facing some of the most difficult times we have ever had to face in our lifetimes. Children are off school, we are separated from friends and families and are advised to stay in our homes. It is very tough and there can be times when we feel sad, lonely or anxious. This is completely normal and I have been feeling a little bit like this myself over the last few days! Therefore, to help you and myself at home this week, I thought we could focus on the theme of happiness. I hope that this can bring some sunshine and light into our hearts this week and allow us to reflect on the goof things we have and are thankful for. Look at a different slide each day and think about what it is trying to tell you about being happy. Think about what happiness means and how we can always find some light and good, even in the darkest of times.

As we are in another uncertain time with a new lockdown and school being closed it is important that we take the time to be calm, reflect and be at one with God and Jesus. A great way to do this is through singing songs as part of praise and worship. It is a great way of expressing our love and devotion for Jesus and also helps us to feel better. Every day there will be a different song with you to learn- there will be a video of the song for you to listen to and the lyrics for you to learn and read. Peace
As we are in another uncertain time with a new lockdown and school being closed it is important that we take the time to be calm, reflect and find peace in our lives. We are at peace when we trust completely in Jesus and God, understanding that they have a plan for us and that they know what is best for us. For this week we will be focusing on this theme and message of peace with a new slide and reflection being given every day. Every day there will be a question, picture or reflection on peace. Take the time this week to really think about how you can bring peace to both your life and the lives of others.

Each day we will be doing a different slide with various stories and activities. Don't forget that you can take part at home too and there is 50 house points up for grabs for children who post about the calendar on the blog. Scroll down below to see what we are doing everyday in our collective worship this week to celebrate Advent.
CAFOD ONLINE ADVENT CALENDAR 2020
CAFOD has created a daily Advent reflection for everyday during Advent which you may wan to use at home as part of your Advent preparations. It is an interactive online Advent calendar specifically for Catholic primary schools, with daily reflections and Christmas activities. This year's online Advent calendar includes stories and activities to help children learn about and pray for people around the world. It is suitable for children in both KS1 and KS2. We will be using it everyday in class as part of our collective worship but it would be wonderful if you could join in at home too! I have attached the website link to the calendar PPT and resources below and I will be giving 50 house points for any child who posts about using the CAFOD online advent calendar on their blog. Let's make this Advent 2020 a special time of true preparation and reflection.

Autumn 2 Week 5 - 30.11.2020- 4.12.2020
This week we are returning to focusing on prayer. Each day three different children will come up to the front and say their own prayers with the class. We will listen to their prayers and reflect on the words they say. Each day I will be writing the children's own prayers on the website so that you can see them at home and reflect on their beautiful words. Perhaps you could do some of your own collective worship at home using the prayers that the children have written?
This week the children have been writing and creating their own prayers in class. The children have focused on writing prayer for others who may need our help in our community. This could include the homeless, the hungry, the sick or the lonely. There are many different people we can pray for in our community and who need our help, especially in these difficult times. Year One created their beautiful prayers and then shared them with their peers in the classroom. Take a look at the prayers they wrote below- there are also pictures of the children sharing their prayers and worship with the class.

Singing in Collective Worship
All of this week Year One have been learning hymns as part of their collective worship. They have sung so beautifully and our favourite hymn has been 'Lord you have my heart.' They so enjoyed singing this song and I wanted to share you with you their hard work and beautiful voices. I have therefore uploaded a video onto the Video Sharing Platform of the website. By clicking on the link below you can watch the children's beautiful singing and I will be using this video sharing platform more in the future. We will be uploading lots more videos of our learning including PE, singing and collective worship so keep your eyes peeled on the website!

Learning Hymns
This week we are focusing on hymns and singing worship in class. Each day the children will learn a different hymn song focusing on the words and the tune. We will also be thinking what the words of the hymn mean and use them to feel close to God and Jesus. The hymns we are learning every day are below and the words are there for you to practise at home. It would be wonderful if you could ask your child to sing the hymns to you at home which they have learnt each day in class- I am sure they would love to show you and they have such beautiful voices!

“Faith and violence are incompatible.”
Talk to the children about how the way they behave, the things they say etc. can either further our goal of peace and harmony or it can lead to conflict.

Wednesday
Remembrance Service and Meditation ( 2 minute silence at 11am.)
Also discuss the origins of the Last Post and the Words of Ghandi. Please find the two texts we will be talking about below.
Origin of The Last Post: (From the BBC)
The Last Post will be played all over the world on Remembrance Day. But its origins had nothing to do with mourning. Arthur Lane was a bugler in the British Army when he was captured by Japanese forces during the fall of Singapore in 1942. He spent the remainder of World War Two in PoW camps and working on the notorious Burma Railway. But he also had a more melancholy duty. He still had his bugle with him and it was his task to sound the Last Post for each of his comrades who died during those years. "I'd have to go and set the fires at the crematorium. The lads would build them during the day, put the bodies on, and then somebody had to be delegated to set fire to the funeral pyres, and see that they were properly burnt, so I had to do that." For the rest of his long life, he was haunted by nightmares. And he never played the Last Post again. The sound of a lone bugler playing the Last Post has become one of the most distinctive sounds in the world. Eerie and evocative, it exists beyond all the usual barriers of nation, religion, race and class, charged with the memory of generations of the fallen. But it wasn't always like this.
Below is a quote from Ghandi, please discuss the meaning of the words and how negative/unkind/hurtful thoughts can turn into life changing actions:
"Carefully watch your thoughts, for they become your words.
Manage and watch your words, for they will become your actions.
Consider and judge your actions, for they have become your habits.
Acknowledge and watch your habits, for they shall become your values.
Understand and embrace your values, for they become your destiny."
Thursday
Discussing and exploring the two Children's Rights Articles which specifically talk about War:
Friday
Exploring the following statement from Pope Francis:
"Peace making calls for courage... Much more so than warfare.”
Discuss the idea with the children.
Remind the children about the "Good News" of the gospels. Forgiveness and a path to God's Kingdom.

22.10.2020- School One Body Assembly
On Thursday 22nd October all of St Rose took part in a whole school assembly via Teams. The assembly was based on The Corinthians Reading One Body which you can find by clicking on the document below. Each class was asked to participate through some kind of worship or offering and Year One wrote different prayer based on the reading.
The reading is all about having one body made of many parts and the Year Ones wrote beautiful thankyou prayers to God, thanking him for their different gifts and talents. They wrote their prayers while they were isolating at home and then posted them onto their blog. Mrs Lynch and I had the great pleasure of reading the prayers and were so amazed by what the children had produced. They other classes also contributed in different ways and it was put into a big video for the assembly. I have put a copy of the reading below and you can find and watch the assembly on the website by clicking the following link below. I hope you enjoy the assembly and especially Year One's contribution as much as we did!
Collective Worship
Week 8- 19.10.2020- 23.10.2020
This month of October marks the month of Mary so for this week, as part of our collective worship in class, we are going to be focusing on praying to her and using the rosary. I have added a document below which shows you how to pray to The Rosary using the beads and the different prayers such as The Our Father and The Hail Mary. Please look at the sheet as it will be a great help to you. As part of the Rosary it asks you to focus on telling a story of one of the great mysteries--we will be focusing on the Luminous Mysteries this week and telling a new story each day.
Each day this week we will be using the Rosary and looking at a new mystery story. The timetable is as follows.
Monday- - The Baptism Of Jesus.
Tuesday- The Wedding at Cana
Wednesday-The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God
Thursday- The Transfiguration
5- The Last Supper
I have added PPTS of the stories below so that you can read this story with your child at home, discuss it with them and try some of the activities. Don't forget to pray to the Rosary first before reading the mysteries- you can find out how to do this by looking at the attached sheet below.
5.10.2020- Breathing Meditations
This week we are focusing on controlling our breathing and trying to be relaxed and comfortable as part of our class collective worship time. We will then be using our breathing to help us when talking to God in worship, talking in prayer and in our silent thoughts to him. The children listened to a video all about their breathing and learnt how to use their own focus and concentration to keep their breathing slow, steady and calm. We will continue to use this all week in our collective worship session so that the children feel calm, relaxed and comfortable when talking to God. Please use the link below to access the meditations we are doing in class at home- it will really help the children the more they practise!
Taking part in our Daily Mediations-30.9.2020
This week the children took part in a fantastic meditation where they thought about being a star and all the power they had inside to shine brightly. We spoke about confidence and listening to God to find out how to shine our very best and make the most of our talents and gifts. We then finished by praying to god, thanking him for all he has given us any be showing our gratefulness for his generosity.
Learning about Special Objects in Church
Today the Year Ones went to the Church with Mrs Lynch and myself to learn all about the special objects that are there. We saw pews, the altar, crosses, candles, stained glass windows and an organ. We stood in the pulpit, reading the bible from the lectern and even put holy water on our forehead from the font. The children learnt about the names of the special objects and what they are used for in Church. God wants us to be curious about his house and to marvel and wonder at the amazing things in it and to find out more about what they do! It helps us to feel closer to him. This will also help the children as they now move onto their Celebration topic where they learn about different masses, celebrations and services in Church and what different objects and symbols are used.
Doing our Wednesday Word- 24.9.2020
Today the children had a collective worship session where they listened to The Wednesday Word and reflected on it's meaning which is all about changing ourselves for the better or for our own good. God knows how we can even improve and when we listen to him he can give us guidance and wisdom on how to do this. The Year One's had some fantastic ideas on how they could improve themselves or change for the better such as sharing, talking and praying more to God and even by helping out more at home. It was so wonderful to see the children's own reflections on the message of change this week..They have taken their Wednesday Words home today in their book bags so I really encourage you to look at your child's work and ask them about it- see what they can tell you!
Learning our Daily Prayers
This half term we are focusing on learning the daily prayers needed for Year One. We are focusing on learning the Our Father and the Hail Mary and are practising these daily as part of our collective worship. We are reflecting on what the words of these prayers mean and how they can be used in our daily lives. God wants us to take time to speak to him and listen to his words and praying using the words he taught us is a great way of doing this and showing our devotion to him. These are such beautiful prayers and it would be wonderful if you could also practise saying these with your child at home and seeing if they can remember them. Thank you for your co-operation.
Meditations and Silent Prayer
The children have been learning bout Silent Prayer in our collective worship sessions and how we can pray in our heads to God on our own, not always out loud with others. We spoke about the importance of speaking to God in and from our hearts with love and listening to his voice carefully to see what he wants for us. We put candles on and reflective music and partook in a silent meditative prayer session where the children said their own silent prayers to God. We then shared some of our prayers at the end and they were truly wonderful- we had thank you prayers, sorry for wrongdoings and even some children who asked God for help! I am very proud of Year One for being so meditative and reflective- well done!
Learning about the story of Creation
This term we are learning all about how God made the world in the wonderful story of Creation. Today we learnt the story and acted it out using various props and visuals to help us. The children loved learning about how God made the world and what he made on each day and they are so excited to write about in their books later this week!
God wants us to be curious about the world that he created for us to live in, and when we learnt about it we appreciate it and take responsibility for the planet. It is up to us to care for the planet and look after the wonderful world that we have for future generations.
