Computing Progression E Safety 2021-2022

'E-Safety is about using ICT in a responsible way to keep safe online.'

A huge part of the Computing Curriculum and Progression is Digital Literacy which included Online Safety. At St Rose this is a vital part of ALL our Computing lessons and we also have regular E Safety lessons throughout the year. During the Summer Terms ( Summer 1 and 2) we also spend a large block of our Computing Curriculum devoted to E Safety and Digital Literacy.

We have a brand new scheme of work we are using from September 2021 which is called The Digital Literacy Toolkit. This is a fantastic online resource, made in partnership with the new Entrust Computing Planning and it has lots of plans, resources and ideas for teaching Digital Literacy to children in school. The Toolkit is broken into 8 different strand of Digital Literacy ( see image above) to ensure coverage of the content for all year groups and the topics include Self Image and Identify, Managing Online Relationships, Online Bullying and many more. We are so excited to get started and begin using it!

Every year, we also have our annual E Safety Week to remind us of Staying Safe Online. We have visitors come in and do workshops with us, we do extra lessons in school and have whole school or virtual assemblies so that we can get the most information.

At St Rose, people feel confident and educated about E Safety. Due to a recent February 2021 pupil survey, 100% of pupils said they knew about how to stay safe online and had been taught E Safety by their teachers.

As Digital Literacy and Safety Online is such a vital and integral part of the Computing Curriculum there is a separate new E Safety progression map for 2021-2022 which you can find below. On this document you can see  clear progression throughout the year groups in children's knowledge and skills in using and understanding Online Safety and progression is broken up into each strand of the toolkit.  The Progression Map goes from the start of a child's life at school in EYFS right through to Year 6 so that you can see the progress and development children make in Computing Digital Literacy every year.
