Lent Charity Work
Monday 27th February - Friday 31st March 2023
This Lent, the Lighthouse Group invite you to join them in their acts of charitable giving as part of this special season. Each Friday during Lent, we will perform an act of kindness or raise money for a charity that is close to our heart. We know how generous the families of our school are and we know we can make a difference to the lives of others who are less fortunate than us.
Please make a note of the dates and the events happening so that your children can take part.
Friday 3rd March: SVP Food Bank Donations
On Friday 3rd March, we want to turn our attentions to those who are in need within our community. The Saint Vincent De Paul Society supports local people who are struggle to buy the essential food items they need. To support them, we would invite all of the children to donate the following items by bringing them in to school on Friday 3rd March:
- long life milk
- tinned vegetables
- tinned soups
- tinned fruit
- tinned rice pudding
- tinned tuna
- drinking chocolate
- cooking sauces
- washing up liquid
As a thank you for donating to this worthy cause, the children can wear their own clothes for the day.
Friday 10th March: CAFOD Family Fast Day
On Friday 10th March, we are inviting the staff and children of St Rose to take part in a Family Fast Day in support of CAFOD. On this day, children will opt to have soup and bread for their lunch rather than their normal packed or cooked lunches. If you would like your child to take part, please complete the form below by Tuesday 28th February 2023.
As a reward for sacrificing their normal lunch, those children who take part in the Family Fast Day are able to wear their own clothes on Friday 4th March to say a BIG thank you for their charitable act.
Friday 17th March: Comic Relief 'Wear Something Funny' Day
To mark Comic Relief Day on Friday 17th March, we are inviting the children to 'wear something funny' for the day. We want you to be as imaginative and comical as you want but try to make us smile and giggle on the day - it is for a good cause after all! On this day, we invite you to make a contribution towards the charity in return for wearing your own clothes. Remember, every penny really does make a difference so we know, whatever you can afford will be greatly appreciated by this charity.
Friday 24th March: Father Hudson's Good Shepherd Appeal
Every year, we give out the boxes for the Good Shepherd Appeal for Father Hudson's and this year is no different. In addition to the boxes, we invite all the children to wear their own clothes in return for making a contribution towards the charity. This charity does amazing work within our region and every penny makes a huge difference to those people they support.
Friday 31st March: Lighthouse Group Charitable Appeal
The Our Common Home Group are keen to make the quiet area in the playground an area of peace, tranquility and calm and they would love to be able to plant some more plants to make the area more appealing. On the final Friday of half term, they would be really grateful for any contributions that you could make to help them raise money for more plants for the quiet area. In return for your contributions, the children will be able to wear their own clothes as a BIG thank you for your support.

Online Safety Week 2023 6.2.2023
This week ( Week 6) marks Online Safety Week here at St Rose. This is an extremely important event in our school calendar were each year we aim to raise awareness of online issues and safety online and while using technology. This week, we will be focusing on the theme of ' Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations online.' We are celebrating by putting children's voices at the heart of this week and encouraging them to talk about the online safety knowledge and support they know and receive and how to use technology responsibly and safely.
To mark this event we will be having an assembly led by The Lighthouse Group and special online safety workshops in the parish hall. The children will also be having online safety lessons in class and will focus on a variety of topics such as cyberbullying, data and privacy, online reputation etc. Please don't forget there will also be an Online Safety Parent Workshop on Wednesday 15th February at 2pm.
By clicking on the image link below you will go to our Computing page. When you scroll down, you will see an Online Safety section, which has lots of resources about Online Safety for both children and parents. There is lots of information, quizzes, resources and games for you and your child to read and enjoy. Please make sure you continue to talk about the importance of online safety in the ever changing and technologically advanced world that we live in.

KS1 and Early Years Nativity
The school’s Christmas KS1 and Early Years Nativity for Nursery, Reception and Year One will take place on Monday 12th December and Tuesday 13th December 2022 in the school hall. You are able to choose either 2 tickets for one performance, or 1 for Tuesday’s performance and 1 for Wednesday’s performance.
Tickets for the performance were given out at Parents Evening and all parents should now have tickets for the performance. If you do not yet have tickets, or have any questions regarding this please come and see Miss Murphy as soon as possible.
The performances are at the following times:
Monday 12th December – 2pm
Tuesday 13th December – 9.30am
For the nativity each class has been designated a specific role that they will focus on. Nursery will be farm animals during the performance we would like them to be dressed in farm animal fancy dress or farm animal onesies.
We need the children to be comfy in their animal costumes as they will be performing a dance. It is important that we have the children are dressed as animals that might have been present at the nativity - therefore please only send your children in farm animal costumes such as cows, pigs, donkeys, ducks, sheep etc- we do not want any dinosaurs or unicorns please!
It would be greatly appreciated if costumes could be found and sourced from home for the performance. ALL costumes will need to be brought in on the Monday 5th December (a week before the first performance), so that we have all of them ready for the dress rehearsals and final shows. If you cannot source a farm animal costume, please come and talk to me and we will see what we can do.
You can see a downloadable copy of the nativity letter we sent out to you below, which has further information. Thank you for all your continued support- the children can't wait for you to see the performance!

Her funeral is on Monday 19th September 2022 at 11am and, in line with the directive from the DFE, our school will be closed as a mark of respect and to allow all staff and pupils to watch the funeral at home.
We will return to school on Tuesday 20th September at 8.45am. Please remember Nursery children are only in until 11.30 next week.
