Friday Charity Events for Advent 2020
As the season of Advent approaches, we now turn our attention to how we may prepare for the birth of Jesus. During this season, we try to help as many different charities as we can through 'non-uniform' days each Friday during Advent.
This year, more than ever, charitable giving is especially important and we hope that our charitable work will be able to support those who are in need, sick or who simply need a little more support because of the impact of COVID-19.
The following table indicates the charities that we will support during Advent and what we are asking you to do as a result.

Children in Need 13.11.20 - PE with Joe
This Friday 15th November 2020 , we will have an 'Own Clothes Day' on Friday to raise money for Children in Need. It will be a £1 donation for the children to come in their own clothes. Normally, we would be celebrating this as a whole school but sadly, things are a little different this year. Whilst we might not be able to get together as a whole school for the day, it is still important that we try to do our bit as the charities need our support, now more than ever!
PE with Joe will be happening!
So as a school each 'bubble' will also be completing Joe Wick's final 20 minutes of his 24 hour PE challenge for Radio 2. The Children in Need team have asked all classes to complete the final 20 minutes of his PE marathon with him. So as we have been asked then Year 2 will be joining him at 9.05am this Friday.
Please remember to bring £1 on Friday (if you want to come in your own clothes). Let us all support this fantastic charity with a great cause. As we're doing PE... maybe consider joggers for the day. I will be wearing mine. I did PE with Joe throughout the whole lockdown and love every session he does. I wonder if he will be wearing fancy dress as he often did for his Friday sessions.
A big 'Thank You' to everyone as the school raised £197 for children in Need. Year 2 contributed £35.50. We had a great time doing PE with Joe... a fantastic start to the day. The pictures are above.

#pledgekindness this weekend.
Free Radio are currently carrying out a campaign whereby they are trying to get 10,000 pledges of kindness by Saturday 10th October. I think this is something we could easily all do this weekend and then take a photo of your 'act of kindness' and post it on the blog using #pledgekindness.
I think it would be a lovely idea if we could get carry out acts of kindness this weekend (as it is World Mental Health Day) to show we are thinking of others . It will also allow us to reflect on how we can behave and act in the image and likeness of God. What are you going to do? I pledge to do the ironing with a happy face .
Harvest Festival 2020
On Wednesday 14th October we will be celebrating Harvest Festival in our class bubble with a Mass that is celebrated on line led by Fr Gary.
Harvest is an exciting time where we will be talking to the children in class about different foods, where it comes from and how we can help other countries around the world. It links with our Science topic about plants we eat that we are doing presently.
On Wednesday 14th October we will be collecting together all the tins and packets of food etc from what has been sent in and distributing to a local food bank. It would be wonderful if each child in the class could bring at least one tin or packet of food in which we can then donate to charities and people in need. If you are able to spare anything then it will be greatly appreciated as in this unprecedented times there is a lot of local food needs.
Thank you so much for the donations we have received so far. The picture on the right is of the tins etc we have received into Y2 so far. We are still accepting donations up until the 14th so any extra support will be greatly appreciated.

All the log ins for the children to access their on line learning is now in their reading dairy.
The password for active learn (so they can start reading books) is Strose2019. The school code is olsr. We have tried to log in at school and it's easier with google chrome than safari.
Google chrome app is free to download.
https://ttrockstars.com/ is how to access Rockstars
https://play.numbots.com/#/account/search-school is how to get onto Numbots.
When asked for the school's postcode you need to put in B29 5DY and then click on to Our Lady and St Rose of Lima.
Keep up the great effort!
Uniform Change 2020-21
This year, we are trialling an update of our uniform policy to ensure that the enriched, active, engaging and all weather curriculum we want for our children can be realised.
We are embracing the 'Daily Mile' alongside out weekly PE lesson in Year 2 which means the children can be in the classroom one minute, and outside the next. The children therefore need to be in active wear to enable this to happen so that every minute of the day really does count. In light of this, children should wear trainers (shoes) and joggers instead of trousers and skirts or dresses BUT they must all be plain black (no logo).
The School PE uniform is therefore now:
- Royal Blue V Neck sweatshirt or cardigan with the school badge and gold stripe.
- White polo shirt (preferably with the school logo on it).
- Plain black joggers.
- Plain black trainers/shoes - suitable for all weathers and for running the Daily Mile.
Our PE lesson takes place every Monday afternoon. Combined with our 'Daily Mile', these physical activities will help us to achieve our class wish of having 'active bodies' as well as 'active minds.'
Please also remember long hair should be tied up and one pair of stud earrings (no hoops) worn where ears are pierced.
