 Forest School for Reception

Wednesday 10th March

Starting from this Wednesday (10th March), Reception will have Forest School every Wednesday afternoon.

We will be having this session on a Wednesday afternoon until the end of the year which is very exciting!

Children need to be dressed appropriately for the environment they will be working in and the changing weather conditions.

For Forest School sessions each Wednesday, children will not come to school in their normal uniform. Instead they willneed to wear...

- Old, warm clothes that you do not mind your child getting dirty e.g. an old pair of tracksuit bottoms, warm jumper or sweatshirt, woolly hat, gloves and a scarf.

- An old, warm waterproof coat, wellies and socks.

- Please also ensure that your child comes into school with a labelled plastic carrier bag containing a pair of wellington boots and a pair of warm long socks.  These can be kept in school if you would prefer. They should come to school wearing their normal school shoes, but with their wellies in the bag. They can change back into their shoes for the rest of the school day.

Thank you for all your support, Miss Hand smiley

As the season of Advent approaches us, in Reception we turn our attention to preparing for the birth of Jesus.  In our RE lessons, we will explore the season in more detail but we also want to make sure we have used the time wisely to help those around us who may be sick, in need or who simply may need a little more support because of COVID-19.

As a school, we always set aside each Friday in Advent to carry out charitable giving and this year is no different.  Each Friday will be an own clothes day  and we will support a different charity each week. You will find the details of who we are supporting below, along with what you need to do to support them.

Let's make this Advent season special for those who need to feel Jesus' light and guidance in their life.

1. Friday 27th November - Local Food Bank

Food banks are in desperate need of our support.  Our Harvest Festival was a fantastic success and we were able to provide lots of food to people within our local community.  As Christmas approaches, the pressure to provide food to make the day special is even greater.

In light of this, we would like you to donate food items this week.
The table below shows the items the food bank needs.
Your reward, wearing your own clothes for the day!

Dry Food Items Cereal, Rice, Pasta, Lentils, Beans, Pulses, Biscuits
Tinned Food Items Soup, Pasta Sauce, Tomatoes, Vegetables, Fruit, Meat
Drinks Tea, Coffee, UHT Milk, Longlife Fruit Juice

2. Friday 4th December - CAFOD World Gifts

Each year, we love to support CAFOD through their World Gifts campaign.  As a class, we will decide what gift we would love to buy with the money that is donated on this day.

Take a look at the website by  clicking here  to see what we could buy and come and tell me what you think would be good for our class.

This week, please bring in £1 to donate towards World Gifts.
Your reward, wearing your own clothes for the day!

3. Friday 11th December - Christmas Jumper Day

We have raised a phenomenal amount for Birmingham Children's Hospital and, whilst we weren't able to have our large charity day in the Summer, this doesn't mean our charitable giving will stop.  On 11th December, Birmingham Children's Hospital have their Jolly Jumper Day and we'll be joining them.

Pop on your Christmas Jumper and let's get festive together for the children of Birmingham!

This week, please bring in £1 to donate towards Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Your reward, wearing your Christmas Jumper or own clothes for the day!

4. Friday 18th December - Father Hudson's Society

Traditionally, we have always supported Father Hudson's during Easter through their Good Shepherd Appeal.  Sadly, the COVID-19 lockdown prevented us from supporting them as much as we would have liked to.  In light of this, we are dedicating the final Friday in Advent to Father Hudson's so that we can support the fantastic work they did for people in the greatest of need.

This week, please bring in £1 to donate towards Father Hudson's.
Your reward, wearing your own clothes for the day!

 Children in Need

     Friday 13th November 2020

This Friday is Children in Need. It will be an 'Own Clothes Day' on Friday to raise some much-needed funds for Children in Need.  It will be a £1 donation for the children to come in their own clothes.

Joe Wicks is completing a 24 hour PE challenge for Radio 2.  The challenge begins at 9.25am on Thursday 12th November and finishes on Friday 13th November.  The Children in Need team would love all schools to complete the final 20 minutes of his PE marathon with him. We will be joining Joe Wicks in his PE challenge at 9.05am on Friday. We can't wait! smiley

 Autumn 2 updates

World Mental Health Day

               Sunday 10th October

Every year, World Mental Health Day is being held on 10th October. The event was held for the first time in 1992, and has been held annually ever since.

As a school we thought it would be lovely if the children could carry out acts of kindness at the weekend to show they are thinking of others. Not only will this make us think about Mental Health Day, but it will also allow us to reflect on how we can behave and act in the image and likeness of God - this links to our class wish:

"to do our best in our learning and to show the kindness of God in all we do and to all we meet".

Free Radio are currently carrying out a campaign whereby they are trying to get 10,000 pledges of kindness by Saturday. We would like you to take a photo of your 'act of kindness' and post it on the blog using the hashtag #pledgekindness.

We look forward to hearing about your acts of kindness on the blog and in school after the weekend.

Thank you once again for all your support,

Miss Hand and Mrs. Barnett smiley

      Harvest Festival

               Wednesday 14th October

This year we will celebrating Harvest Festival at school in a different way. It is still an important time of year when we thank God for the blessings in our lives, but also when we help those in need.

We are asking for donations of tinned and dried foods (nothing fresh) so that these items can be given to local food banks.

It would be wonderful if every child could bring in an item to donate. These can be brought in any time from now until the 14th.

Thank you once again for all your support,

Miss Hand and Mrs. Barnett smiley
