In 1989, governments across the world promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention says what countries must do so that all children grow as healthy as possible, can learn at school, are protected, have their views listened to, and are treated fairly.
Here at St Rose, we are dedicated to ensuing our children know and understand their rights. That is why we are taking on the challenge of attaining the Rights Respecting Schools Award.
Respecting Schools Award gives children a powerful language to use to express themselves and to challenge the way they are treated. They are also able to challenge injustices for other children.
The children explored all 42 articles and sorted them into three sections: Basic Needs; Safe from Harm and Express Themselves.
As a class we selected 4 rights that we would like to focus on this year to form part of our class charter…
