Experts in Literacy and child development have discovered that if children know 8 Nursery Rhymes off by heart by the time they're 4 years old, they are usually among the best readers by the time they are 8 years old.
The importance of nursery rhymes for the under 7’s
Nursery rhymes play an important role in early childhood development and education. As well as being fun they are excellent teaching tools:
1. Nursery rhymes and children’s songs boost vocabulary and language development.
2. They help children to develop literacy skills.
3. They provide a fun way to support early numeracy skills.
4. Nursery rhymes help children to develop social, physical and emotional skills.
We learn to sing a number of Nursery Rhymes each half-term.
