Spade to Fork Spring/ Summer 2021

Cooking Lessons

28.4.2021 and 5.5.2021

Making Cakes

Today the children carried on with their cooking sessions for Spade to Fork and went to the parish hall to cook some delicious fairy cakes which had a delicious sponge and icing on top. They spoke about what ingredients they would need and spoke about how how they would make the cakes. They had such fun making them and even used an oven to help cook them. They learnt about using an oven safely and how it works with cooking and heating different foods. Thank you to Mrs Ainsworth and Mr Lahert who supervised the cooking with the children. They said how well behaved they were and how all the children had so much fun! The photos were absolutely delicious and they have all taken a cake home. I even tried one too and was amazed by how yummy they were! Please see photos of the children cooking below.

Please note that not all children in the class were able to cook this week. Those that haven't will be first to cook next week instead. The children will be completing Cooking on a weekly rota basis so that it fair for all the children and so they get a quality slot of time cooking.

Lesson 17.3.2021

Today the children had their second session of Spade to Fork. They went outside and planted some lovely broad beans plants. They spoke about what a plant needed to grow such as air. sunlight and water. They then watered their plants and then sang a song 'grow little bean grow.' They really enjoyed planting the seeds and looking after them. They watered them really well and all understood what a plant needs to grow healthy and strong. They then thought about what seeds they wanted to plant next week and how we were going to take care of them. They also did some basic planting maintenance- they had a look at the outdoor areas and removed any weeds or  watered any plants that needed it etc. They also generally tidied up the areas and got rids of any leaves, rubbish etc. What a great second lesson Year 1 and they are looking forward to watching them grow over the coming weeks!

Spade to Fork - Spring Term 2021

ALL YEAR 1 CHILDREN

8.3.2021

In Spring 2 Term something very exciting is going to be happening! Every Wednesday afternoon Year 1 will be having a  'Spade to Fork' session as part of their enrichment timetable.  This will involve being outside and working in whatever weathers so the children need to be dressed appropriately for the environment they will be working in and the changing weather conditions.

Therefore, each Wednesday in Spring 2 Term your child should come to school NOT wearing their school uniform. They need to wear the following:

  • Old, warm clothes that you do not mind your child getting dirty e.g. an old pair of tracksuit bottoms, warm jumper or sweatshirt, woolly hat, gloves and a scarf.
  • Old, warm waterproof coat

Please also ensure that your child comes into school with a labelled plastic carrier bag containing a pair of wellington boots and a pair of warm long socks.  These can be kept in school if you would prefer.

Year One will be beginning Spade to Fork in Spring 2 Term 2021. Keep your eyes peeled on this page for upcoming photos and information on the sessions we have been doing.
