Year One Spellings
Each week the children are tested on their Band Word Spellings and their Friday Spellings. These are two different sets of spellings and it is evident that some children are not practising them at home. There are two sets of spellings to learn each week- the Band words which we test every day and the Friday Spellings which are tested weekly. It is really important that the children practise the spellings, especially the Band Words- we still have a lot of children on Band 1 and it would be great if some of them could move up! We are also finding that a lot of children are getting their b's and d's the wrong way round so please practise and support them with this at home. Below I have given a list of the Friday Spellings for this half term and the Band Words 1-10. Your child should know what band they are in.
Thank you for you co-operation.
Each week, the children will be tested on 10 spellings from the Year 1 spelling list. This test will be given on Friday so please practise the spellings at home with your child. All of the children will be given spellings from the Year One Term 1B List unless they are on Band 1 High Frequency Words. If they are on Band 1 they will practise these every week until they move up to Band 2 or beyond.
A paper copy of the spellings has been sent home but the full weekly spellings for this half term are also shown below. Week 1 starts from this week ( week commencing Monday 2nd November 2020) and please learn your spellings for the appropriate week and keep practising! Don't forget our spelling tests will be every Friday morning.
I have also given you a digital copy of the High Frequency Words and Common Exception Words for Year
One which will be tested at the end of each half term.
Year 1 and 2 Spelling List
The spellings on the list above will be used many times during the children's time in KS1. I have also put a downloadable PDF of the document below which you can download, print and use to help learn your spellings. The children are expected to have learnt and be confident in all of these spellings by the end of Year 2 so please start practising! Try and help your child to learn as many of these spellings as you can as it will help their writing to progress and flourish throughout their time in KS1.
