This week in Reception...

What's happening this week in Reception?

Autumn 1: Week 8 - WC: Monday 21st Octoberhttps://www.olstrose.bham.sch.uk/page/2ace6db2cd114c4db3bf21de0e882ca5/pic/cc4814e8af944e48911ac808730159e9/full_width/check/

 Literacy and Mathematics

Literacy

This week in Literacy we will be continuing to look at the story of 'Dear Zoo'. We will be creating our very own Dear Zoo books, writing shopping lists for the perfect puppy and writing letters to the Zoo.

Literacy basic skills

We will also be looking at the story 'The Bop' which links to the sounds we are learning in phonics. The children will

have a go at writing these to make simple words from the story - e.g. bus.

Early Learning Goals (End of Year target) for Literacy:

Reading

Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular

words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Writing

Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Maths

This week in Maths we will be focusing on numbers up to 5 and 'comparing groups of identical objects' and 'comparing groups of non-identical objects' using the language of more than, fewer than, equal to, the same as when comparing the groups of objects. The children will be encouraged to line up the objects when making the comparisons.

Early Learning Goals (End of Year target) for Maths:

Numbers

Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

Shape, space and measure

Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

Thank you for all your continued support smiley
