A Message From Your Teachers...
Hello Year One and welcome to another wonderful day. We are nearly at the end of the week-I hope you are all well and are enjoying learning at home. I want to say thankyou again to everyone for all your hard work this week- I know there have been lots of you learning through your online work or paper packs and I am so impressed by your dedication. Keep posting on the blog where you can as I love seeing the work you are doing and hearing from you. It was wonderful to see so many of you sign in on the register yesterday- this lets me know you are OK and are doing your learning for the day. Please make sure that all of you keep singing in every day at home.
Today you will be having all your usual morning activities of Phonics, Maths and English and then there is an Art picture to create in the afternoon. You will be identifying one more and less and learning about the super joining word 'and'. I have also added some amazing DT and Spade to Fork cards as an extra challenge for you all. This is not a compulsory activity but it is creative, outdoorsy and I think a lot of you will find it very fun!
I will be making some phone calls today to some of the children I haven't heard from- this is nothing to worry about, it is just to check in and say hello! There will also be a brand new paper home learning pack to collect on Monday from the office so I will be ringing some parents of children who are working on paper to inform you of this.
Remember, if at any time you have any queries about the home learning or if you need any support, please send me an email to the address below - firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!
Miss Murphy and Mrs Lynch
A quick message to ALL Year One parents:
I know many of you received the text yesterday about putting your child's name on the register every day. We had a wonderful response yesterday and got well over half the class signed in which is fantastic! Please ensure that your child continues to login to the register every day (Monday- Friday) so I can see everyone who is learning at home each day. I need to see all children in Year One signing in on the register EVEN those who are using a paper learning pack at home. The register can be found on the Year One Class Page and there is also a link below. Many Thanks

Daily Mile- Get Moving!
This is your daily reminder to have a break from your work and to keep healthy and active! You need your exercise so make sure you now run around your garden for 15 minutes or go on a 30 minute walk.
It is time for you to practise your online Maths and Reading Phonic Skills. You can either try and move up a level on Numbots or read some books or sound lessons on Active Learn, complete your Big Maths Tests online or try out some spelling games on j2blast.
Numbots helps children with their sums and with counting and recognising numbers. This is very Year One friendly and helps children to improve their Maths fluency and recall in addition and subtraction facts.
Active Learn has access to thousands of online reading books to help the children practice their Phonic sounds and become fluent readers. The more books they read the quicker they will progress in their reading so you need to be using and accessing this website regularly.
Big Maths helps them to recall number facts quickly in their learn its test and practise their skills for their CLIC test on Friday.
You can now access your weekly spellings online using J2 blast which is on the BGFL App Launchpad. Don't forget that you will have to sign into BGFL first and then access the j2blast through the app launchpad. You can practise your spellings online here and play lots of fun games to help you learn them throughout the week!

In School, some of the key worker children are trying out weekly DT and Spade to Fork Sessions which they are very much enjoying! We wouldn't want you to miss out on all of the fantastic learning we do in school and so Miss Mapother has very kindly made some DT and Spade to Fork Activity Cards for you all to try. It is time to get creative and explore your amazing God- given talents, either through creating something in DT or getting outside and caring for Nature and God's creation!
I will be uploading a brand new DT and Spade to Fork Card as a challenge every Thursday. There is no pressure to do this as I know you already have a lot of work to do but it is for children who want to be creative and try it out!
Remember also that you do not have to do these extra activities just on a Thursday... you can do them anytime you like in the week, when you get chance! Below you can find the DT and Spade to Fork Card s for this week with the exciting activities on. HAVE FUN!

Design A Car Competition
Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Forward Thinking Birmingham are proud to announce a 12 month charity partnership with Mercedes (LSH Auto UK). They are kicking off the partnership by launching a design competition, working with children and young people in the Midlands of which some may be accessing support through our STICK team.
They want us, as a school, to invite our students to create a Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle livery design on the theme of ‘positive futures’. The theme brings together the importance of supporting our children and young people to give them the best start in life and championing renewable energy for the positive future of our planet. Or to put it simply looking after our planet and ourselves.
The winning design will be wrapped onto a White Mercedes-Benz A Class A250e and will tour LSH Auto UK’s Mercedes-Benz dealerships across the Midlands, starting at Mercedes-Benz of Birmingham, before moving on to Mercedes-Benz of Erdington, Mercedes-Benz of Solihull and Mercedes-Benz of Tamworth before returning to Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The winner will be invited to ‘unveil’ the car in the showroom (when it is safe to do so) and will receive some awesome Mercedes themed goodies as a prize.
The closing date for entries is Friday 29th January 2021 and a winner will be chosen by 12th February 2021. Find the attached document template below.
We look forward to receiving your entries and best of luck!
Birmingham Commonwealth Challenge
We all know you understand how important children's health is during the school's closure period- The Chief Medical Officer suggests that children participate in 60 minutes of moderate/ vigorous physical activity each day in order to maintain health. This challenge is a a great way for families to stay active at home and you can even win prizes for yourselves and our school too . To help families stay on track during the Covid-19 UK lockdown, the website has created a free resource that links to the PE curriculum and enables families to earn sports equipment.
Here's how it works in 4 simple steps:
1) Download the free resources from the website; both interactive (online) and printable versions.
2) Do 15 minutes of Physical Activity with your child at home. Anything that elevates your child's heart rate through movement counts. We have included some great ideas of the types of activity you can do, on the leaflet.
3) Mark the relevant day on the Commonwealth Map.
4) Once completed, submit to email@example.com to be in with a chance of winning sports equipment for your school and a Love2Shop voucher for you and your family.
Please click on the green link below to go to the Birmingham Commonwealth Challenge Official Website and find out more information.
