Maths - Time

Today we are going to be continuing to look at time and sequencing events.

There are few different activities that you can do. You do not need to do them all.  smiley

All resources needed can be found below the activities.

1.) Begin to describe familiar events in order, using the language of time

- Take a look at the first picture. Where is Isha? What is she doing? Is it day or night? How do you know?

- What does she do next? Look at the sky. What time of day is it?

- What happens later? Who is picking her up from Grandma’s house? Where might they be going? What do you think will happen next?

- Tell a first, then, later story about these pictures.

2.) Begin to use the language before and after, and be able to look at the order of events flexibly, from last to first, as well as from first to last

- Take a look at the picture below.

- What is happening in the picture? What do you do before you go to bed? What does Alex do before he goes to bed?

- What do you think Alex did before his bedtime story?

Some extra questions: Do you clean your teeth before or after eating breakfast? Why? Do you have a story before or after your bath? Do you have a story before or after you get into bed?

3.) Use the language of time and realise the importance of sequence

- How can you show me what happens in your day? Can you draw some pictures? (resource document below).

Think about what you did yesterday!

- What was the first thing that you did yesterday? What it light or dark outside? Was it day or night?

- What did you do next/then? Did you do anything else before you started your school work?

- What did you do after you had finished your school work?

Additional maths activities

If you would rather, and you have the resources/time, you might like to make something and use the language of first, then, next, later, before and after.

You could....make a cake, some cupcakes, some toast, some porridge.

After you have made it, can you then describe what you did using the language of first, then, next, later, before and after.

Phonics

In phonics, we do the following things:

1. Sing the alphabet song (the video below is slightly different to the one we sing at school, but the children know it).

2. Practise all of the sounds that we have learned so far.

3. Practise reading words with the previous sound in.

4. Watch a video of our new sound.

5. Practise reading words with our new sound in. We segment the sounds and blend them together to say/read the word, e.g. the word cat - segment ---> c-a-t - blend ---> cat!

6. Practise writing the new sound (pre-cursive letter formation).

7. Practise writing words with the new sound in.

1. Alphabet Phonics Song

6. Practise writing the new sound - ee

6. Practise writing our new sound 'ee' - e letter formation
