A message from Miss Hand...

Hi Reception,
How are you all today? We still had some snow around yesterday, so hopefully you managed to get outside and continue to enjoy it. smiley
I hope you had a good Tuesday and that you're excited about another day of learning. smiley
This morning we have Literacy, Maths, phonics and the rest of your usual morning activities. This afternoon we have Art. I have also added this week's Forest School, Spade to fork and D&T activity cards which you might wish to look at. smiley I hope you have a really lovely day and I very much look forward to seeing your blog posts. Well done for all your hard work as always!

Home learning packs

A reminder that there is a new home learning pack available this week that you can collect from school. Please let the school know if you are wanting to pick up a pack.

Seeing AI app
This app was originally designed for visually impaired people. It is a free app that "narrates the world around you". You can download the app, scan pieces of text, images, people and handwriting and the app will then read it aloud to you. It could be really useful to help children read words/sentences which are unfamiliar to them. There is a youtube video below which explains how the app works.

Morning routine

We always start our morning by talking about the date and weather. We sing the days of the week song and we discuss the date - what day was it yesterday, what day is it today...tomorrow? If yesterday was the 26th, what is today? What is one more than 26... Perhaps you can talk about the date and weather at home. There is a youtube link of the days of the week song below.

Basic skills

1. Handwriting - I wonder if you can practise writing this sentence - The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. (document below). It uses all the letters in the alphabet, so it is really useful!


2. Have a look at the 'I can see document' below. Take a look at Day 3

I wonder if you can write something about this picture? I wonder if you can think of your own sentence or perhaps you could write another ‘I can see’ sentence. I can see... It is up to you! If this is a bit tricky, you could have a go at writing some sounds/words.


3. Word of the day - Take a look at the document of slides below. Take a look at Day 3 and complete the activity!

Literacy - Little Red Riding Hood

Today we are continuing our new story of Little Red Riding Hood.

I have added the story powerpoint below and all the other resources you will need in one document.

Today I would like you to read the story and then have a go at matching the word or sentence to the picture. If the word is tricky, have a look at the initial (first) sound in the word. You also have a story word mat which can support you. You don't need to do them all, just do as many as you can.

Maths - Composition of 8

This week we are learning about the numbers 6, 7 and 8!

Phonics - ow

We will practise our new sound 'ow' today.

In phonics, we do the following things:

1. Sing the alphabet song (the video below is slightly different to the one we sing at school, but the children know it).

2. Practise all of the sounds that we have learned so far.

3. Practise reading words with the previous sound in.

4. Watch a video of our new sound.

5. Practise writing the new sound (pre-cursive letter formation).

6a. Practise reading words with our new sound in. We segment the sounds and blend them together to say/read the word, e.g. the word -  cat - segment ---> c-a-t - blend ---> cat!

6b. Practise writing words with the new sound in.

1. Alphabet Phonics Song

2. Practise all of the sounds that we have learned so far.
