Year 5

Welcome to all the Year 5 children and parents!

Year 5 really is a fantastic year full of chances to shine, develop independence and learn new skills through our inspiring curriculum.

Our class page provides you with useful information about the Year 5 curriculum, homework and spellings we learn throughout the year.  It will also allow you to see the wonderful things we do in our lessons along with celebrating those children who have won one of our class awards.

We know we're going to have a fantastic year and we look forward to working with you.

Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity Day - Thursday 7th July 2022

This year, the children and staff at Our Lady and St Rose of Lima are once again supporting the Birmingham Children's Hospital with one aim... to raise as much money as we can.

The children are being sponsored to be as active as they can during a special OLSR Commonwealth Games event where the children will test their skill and physical ability to compete in a number of different activities. The day will also include a Commonwealth Games Torch Relay that every child and staff member will take part in.

How will our money help?

As a school, we are exceptionally fortunate to have a set of VR headsets to enhance our lessons and give our children a fantastic educational experience. Birmingham Children’s Hospital have recently trialled using the VR headsets in their hospital and have found that this technology significantly reduces the stress and anxiety that children experience when they are in hospital as they are transported into different worlds where they can, for a short while, forget about why they are in hospital and the medical procedures they are about to receive.

Their appeal is to raise £105,000 to purchase their own headsets to support their patients across the hospital. We know how beneficial these are in school so we understand the benefits they could have for children in a hospital environment. All of the money raised through our charity day will go to this appeal.

How can you help?

Help your child to raise as much money as they can by using either their sponsorship form or by asking people to donate online.

We know times are hard at the moment so any amount raised really will make a HUGE difference. If every child were able to raise £10, that would mean almost £2500 for the hospital and that money is vital.

We know the children will complete these challenges so collect the money as you get sponsorship as we'll then be able to send the money off before we break up for the summer holidays.

Sponsorship online

Raising money online is simple!

All you need to do is share the Just Giving Page and then people can donate online AND the hospital will also receive Gift Aid for your donation. Click the link to take you direct to the page or scan the QR Code.

We loved seeing all of our parents in the playground on Jubilee Day so we'd like to invite you all to a 'Commonwealth Summer Fair' from 2pm onwards in the playground. Each class will have their own stall where they will have games for you to take part in and all the money raised will go to the Children's Hospital.

Every game will cost 50p with the chance to win some prizes so bring your loose change along and enjoy the day with your children!

What will each class be doing?

  • Nursery: Refreshments
  • Reception: Ring Toss
  • Year 1: Bottle Tombola
  • Year 2: Hook a Duck
  • Year 3: Coconut Shy
  • Year 4: Penalty Shoot Out
  • Year 5: Cornhole
  • Year 6: Ping Pong Game
