At St Rose, our children and staff love to read and it is therefore important that books and reading areas are an integral and focal part of our classrooms.

We ensure that every classroom at our school has a reading area with a wide range of book titles and genres, so our children are able to browse, select and read books during their school day. We encourage our children to read for pleasure and enjoyment, as well as to learn, and our book areas allow children the freedom to choose the books they wish.

In EYFS and KS1, these areas are also a fantastic way for children to share books together and engage in conversations about what they read, whilst also recommending books to others and explaining which books or genres they like and why. Our children enjoy picking books from our reading areas and see this as a real treat, which is why we ensure we incorporate time for children to use this resource during the school day.

Please ensure you read stories with your children at home, as it really does support children with so many things, including knowledge, vocabulary, enjoyment  and imagination.
