Reading at Home
BoomReader Online Reading Journals
All of the Year One children will take home two weekly Phonics books, which includes current sounds the children are learning that week and previous sounds for them to practise. We ask you to listen to your child's reading at home every night, ensuring that they are reading the book to you and using their Phonics skills. This is to ensure that the children are practising segmenting words and blending them together to read. These books will then be changed weekly for your child and they will receive a new book every Friday.
We use an online reading diary called BoomReader which makes it so easy for you to read and comment on your child reading at home. By clicking on the image at the top of the page you can head straight over to the BoomReader website. The website can also be accessed via the computer website, or as an app or URL on your smartphone. We expect children to read for 10 minutes a day and log this online. As time goes on, using these online reading journals will also secure a visible online reading journey for your child, which you will be able to see and look back on. We have also sent home your child's personal login for Boom Reader, along with their weekly reading book and a parent guide to help you get set up at home. If you need another login please ask myself or Miss Cashmore and we will gladly print a new login for you.
There are also 'parent guide' documents below which you can click on for more help and information on how to set up your account, get started and use the website. Below are some helpful guides for parents. You can also click on the link below to go straight to the parent guide pages from their website.
