Our computing curriculum at St Rose has been designed with the above aims in mind. We currently offer a curriculum where the units taught have been carefully sequenced, providing children with the chance to revisit, repeat and build on key concepts and ideas.

At St Rose,  we aim to foster children’s curiosity and fascination with technology so that this thirst for knowledge remains with them for the rest of their lives. We aim to give children as many opportunities as possible to experience, explore and explain the wide variety of technology in the world in order for them to become informed and thoughtful members of the digital community. 

There are three main aspects of the computing curriculum at St Rose: computer science (CS), information technology (IT) and digital literacy (DL). At the core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of multimedia content. Our curriculum also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves through, information and communication technology – at a level where they can become active participants in a digital world.

The aims of our Computing Curriculum are to equip the future generations with the necessary skills for adult life and employment within the ever-changing technological environment we live in. To fulfil all of these objects and to achieve the aims of The National Curriculum we are using the brand new planning scheme from BGFL and Entrust for 2022-2023.  We feel this planning scheme allows us to deliver the rich and broad Computing curriculum the children need and equips them with the technological skills needed for later life. All of the strands included in the new planning also link and are taken straight from the National Curriculum objectives and there are even knowledge organisers to study and support for each topic too. You can find these on the main Computing page under the specific Year Groups. You can download and print of the knowledge organisers for your year group to study at home. We are so excited to get teaching using our brand new Entrust Planning and Scheme of Work for Computing  across the school!
